Everybody knows that July 4 is Independence Day in this nation. It is the day on which our founding fathers adopted the Declaration of Independence that declared our independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence is one of the most well-known documents in American history.

Smoking ban infringes on private property rights

The Minnesota state wide smoking ban that went into place on October 1st was yet another example of government intrusion into the rights of its private citizens. Many people are in favor of the ban because they do not smoke. I am one of those people. It is a nice convenience that when I go to a bar I am able to leave without smelling of an ashtray.

For me, summer “vacation” is an oxymoron. My three month breaks from college are usually filled cashiering at Target, making pizzas at Davanni’s, or folding sweaters at Kohl’s. These are not strategic career moves by any means, but they help keep me afloat financially, while I pursue my real love: politics!

I recently graduated from St. Thomas with a degree in Business Communication and then I spent a summer interning at the Twin Cities’ largest commercial real estate company, United Properties, in the Research Department. I then finished my Real Estate Studies degree at St. Thomas in the spring of 2007.

Wake up, check your e-mail, get dressed, grab something to eat and it’s off to classes, meetings, the library, the gym, student teaching, the lab…It’s another year at the University of St. Thomas and things are underway!

Needless to say, mid-semester is full of projects, papers, tests, and unfinished business that seems to always pop up just when things get unusually busy.
